Want to visit Lyon? Here you will find lots of information: How to get to Lyon? Where to eat? How does public transport in Lyon work?
If you are planning a trip to Lyon, or just gathering information about France's third largest city by population out of curiosity, then you have landed on the right article.
In the next few lines I will tell you everything you need to know before visiting Lyon.
How to get there, how to get around the city, where to eat, what to see and where to stay.
So everything you need to know to plan a perfect trip to Lyon.
If, on the other hand, you are looking for information about living in Lyon (maybe you want to move there in the future) then I recommend reading this interview with Martina, who lived in Lyon to teach Italian to the French.
If you are lazy and want information about Lyon then I leave you with the top 10 things to see in Lyon in a weekend.
how many days do you need?
Three to four days are fine to enjoy the city 100%.
I stayed for 6 days and I must say that by the fifth day I didn't know where to go.
Despite this I'm not saying that the city is boring or has little to offer, quite the contrary.
There is a lot to do (but more on that later) but I think that visiting Lyon over a long weekend is the best way to experience the city.

When we talk about how to get to Lyon there are so many options!
I did it by train from Paris!
This is because I live in Paris and with the TGV it only takes 2 hours.
So my advice is: if flights to Lyon are too expensive then consider landing in Paris and going by train.
I paid 50€ for the train ticket but you can find it for less!
If you like travelling by train and live in northern Italy you might consider doing it this way.
The average journey takes five hours and the prices are cheap.
Of course, if you want to save time, arrive by plane.
Lyon airport is 30 minutes from the centre and is served by many routes.
Getting around Lyon
Let's now come to how to get around Lyon!
The city's public transport is not only 100% functional but also safe and clean (much more so than in Paris).
Let's start with the metro, buses and trams!
In Lyon, there are 4 metro lines (A,B,C,D) that cover the entire city centre and interesting tourist districts.
As I told you earlier, the service works well and is impeccable!
My advice regarding public transport in Lyon is to buy the 72-hour season ticket which includes the metro, bus, tram and even the Lyon funicular.
This option is the best because it seems tailor-made for those who want to visit Lyon in a weekend.
You can buy the season ticket at any metro station and it costs €16 per person.
If you want to be sporty then I can also recommend Lyon's bike sharing service: it's called Velo'v and it's really good.
Racks can be found everywhere in the city and renting a bike is easy: all you have to do is download the Velo'v app, sign up and pay.
Here are the prices of bike sharing in Lyon!
In any case, the city centre is very condensed, so getting around on foot won't be a problem either.
