Temple Legend 📖

According to legend, in the early 17th century, Ii Naotaka, the second lord of the Omi-Hikone Domain, found refuge from a thunderstorm at the temple, guided by a resident cat. In gratitude, Naotaka dedicated the temple to the Ii clan, and upon his death, it was renamed Gotokuji, deriving from his posthumous Buddhist name. The cat, credited with the temple's prosperity, was deified as the "Fortune-Inviting Kannon."

Since then, Gotokuji has been adorned with maneki-neko figurines donated by worshippers, symbolizing good fortune.
